When crate training dogs, start off in the right direction by taking the dog to the back yard to let them go potty. If he is taking too long to go, walk around with him so he gets his bladder moving, this will get him to go much quicker. Now it is time to take him inside to play with and show to the whole family.
Next thing you can do when crate training dogs is feed them in the dog crate. Let them finish their food and once they are finished, pick them up and take them directly outside onto the grass. Placing him directly on the grass will allow them to feel the grass through their feet and relate that feeling to doing their business.
At night time, crate training dogs can be done but only after getting the dog used to being in the crate. Call the dog to go inside the crate with a treat, once the dog is inside give them a treat. Sit outside the crate quietly in side for about 10 minutes, and then leave the room for 5 minutes. Come back into the room and sit for 10 minutes, then let the dog out of the crate.
Crate training dogs this way by putting them into the crate, sitting in site for 10 minutes, leaving for longer periods of time and coming back for 10 minutes, will train the dog to be comfortable in the crate. The last thing you want is for the dog to relate the dog crate with being left alone.
Crate training dogs is a good way to start, but after some time you will find that the dog out grows the crate or the dog no longer needs to use it. Having the dog roam around the house is not a bad thing; they will feel more at home if you allow them to have space and freedom in the home once they are trained.
